Learn about how the Caruso family through three generations continues to keep their Elkins Park customers looking and feeling good.
The history of Rometta Salon & Spa started when Richard and Mary Caruso purchased their property at 7801 Montgomery Ave in 1964 they had a vision to create a neighborhood salon that was comfortable and exclusive. The property was in disarray and needed lots of work so Richard and Mary put on their work clothes and after work and weekends for a year refurbished the property.
Richard, an award winning Stylist and Inventor, opened his doors and clients came from everywhere to have him style their hair. The Caruso's choose Elkins Park for its location and clientele, as well as, a great neighborhood to live and work in. Richard took care of each client as Mary welcomed and handled all the finances. In order to keep their customers on the cutting edge of fashion and style they went to Europe and brought in Couture clothing for their clients. As times changed they started to buy women's ready to wear, which was well received by their neighborhood clientele.
However, this was not enough for Richard as he invented, developed and manufactured a hair roller that conditions and styles the hair with unbelievable curl. The Caruso Molecular Hair roller, which sold over 8 million units, was conceived and evolved with every client Richard did in his Elkins Park Salon. Rick who is Richard's son and his wife MiMi worked alongside their parents. Rick handled the hair roller manufacturing and MiMi did double duty doing hair, buying clothing for the salon and marketing the Caruso Rollers. All the clients encouraged the Caruso Family on their journey with the Hair rollers.
Rick and MiMi's children were raised in the salon. When their daughter Candice was little she would ask the clients if they wanted their nails painted, would setup retail displays and encourage a client to try on the latest looks in fashion for the season. In 1997 MiMi renamed the Salon Rometta and added the addition of a Spa offering facials, waxing, and body treatments. Winning local awards and being featured in national publications for their expert services. This year MiMi's daughter Candice has joined Rometta as President replacing her father Rick who pasted away in 2007. Candice's proficiency in finance and business management paired with MiMi's marketing talents will allow Rometta to continue to evolve. 2011 is a time for new partnerships and a new look for Rometta with all new manicure, pedicure and hair stations. Comfortably placed in the newly renovated 100 plus year old Victorian at the corner of Montgomery and Ashbourne. Through the newly renovated facility and Rometta's Staff's technical expertise Rometta's clients are sure to have an enjoyable experience each time they visit Rometta.
Three generations of Caruso's at one location for 45 years servicing the community thru support, donations, and just making the neighborhood clients feel good and look good.
